Steven Porges has set important impulses in affective neuroscience with his Polyvagal Theory. The theory is based on findings from evolution, neurobiology, and psychology. At its core is the vagus nerve, which influences the nervous system and our state of stress or relaxation.
External stressors such as traffic jams, debts, and/or internal burdens like perfectionism, unfulfilled longings, even depression affect our health through the nervous system. Interesting studies show connections between stress, cortisol levels, and heart rate variability.

Peter Levine, biophysicist and psychologist, has revolutionized the understanding of trauma. With Somatic Experiencing, he developed a holistic approach that connects body and mind to sustainably resolve traumas. His bestsellers are a true treasure trove of knowledge – insights that have also inspired Dr. Regina Heidenhofer in her work. She deepened her understanding of this approach in a seminar and workshop. A modern way to heal old wounds!

Hypnotherapy enables – compared to other forms of therapy – a more direct access to deeper levels of consciousness. This allows causes and connections responsible for problems to be uncovered, processed, and resolved more quickly. Hypnotherapy is suitable as a fast-acting and efficient short-term therapy, as demonstrated in more than 200 empirical studies (cf. German Medical Journal, March 2004 issue, p. 125). Dr. Regina Heidenhofer has completed training as a CTW hypnotherapist at the Institute for Hypnotherapy and Mental Training, D-40822 Mettmann, and can thus expand her range of services in her psychotherapeutic practice.

Dr. Regina Heidenhofer offers – apart from psychotherapy, supervision, counseling – due to high demand, philosophical conversations, in which topics or questions that move you can be discussed. It’s about personal reflection and the inherent pursuit of insights on certain topics. The target group for philosophical conversations ranges from children to people of mature age.
The slogan “You can experience a lot on a journey” is the ideal description of Dr. Regina Heidenhofer’s new release. The book “Travel is the Best Therapy” describes what the author experienced on her trip to the Far East in the summer of 2022. The diverse impressions are illustrated with images and “much personal content”.
The first part extensively describes many impulses that the author experienced as a solo traveler during an India trip. The second part is about individual experiences and the effect of an Ayurveda cure with friends in Sri Lanka. Both travel destinations are additionally illuminated from a systemic therapeutic perspective.
Therefore, my suggestion: Acquire the entertaining inspiration perhaps for your next summer vacation at: https://www.amazon.de/REISEN-IST-BESTE-THERAPIE-Palmblattlesung/dp/B0BRDG922W
Acquire a “somewhat different” gift package for your loved ones or your valued employees. There are different packages to choose from, namely the
- Leadership Package
- Wellness Package
- Body Package
- Yin-Yang Package
- Single Package
Depending on the package, different focus areas are set – ranging from mental hygiene, counseling, coaching, to supervision. In all cases, professional work by a psychotherapist with many years of professional experience in various fields of action is guaranteed.

Letter to the Editor from November 30, 2022 in the Wiener Zeitung
Based on my many years of experience as a business education teacher with secondary level II students, my therapeutically oriented counseling work with students at a university of applied sciences, and generally my experiences in my psychotherapeutic practice, I am particularly concerned with questions about improving the (mental) health of young people. The following letter to the editor published in the Wiener Zeitung is an attempt to increase public sensitivity to the topic of ‘mental health’ – especially for adolescents and young adults.
Free Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents
Children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 21 can receive free psychotherapy. Those affected can register via the website https://gesundausderkrise.at/anmeldung/ and get in contact with psychotherapists who specialize in this age group. Dr. Regina Heidenhofer is part of the team of therapists (www.gesundausderkrise.at).
Because the answer to “How are you?” doesn’t always have to be “good” – Mental Health Youth Referendum – Intergenerational Contract
The intergenerational contract is understood as solidarity between generations. It provides that the working and contributing population takes over the pensions of those who are retired. According to current studies (cf. Mental Health burden of high school students 1.5 years after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austria), this will not be so easy for future employees, if one trusts the study results of the Danube University et al. In their own interest, everyone should sign this referendum. With this call, the Student Union, the Austrian Federal Association for Psychotherapy, doctors, and many more are drawing attention to the mental health of young people and want to mobilize as many people as possible to cast their vote in this referendum (May 2-9, 2022) (www.gutundselbst.at).
Forum of Research on Vocational Education and Training (FORVET)
As part of a presentation on April 8, 2022, at PH Linz/OÖ, Dr. Regina Heidenhofer presented her research findings from her dissertation to the participants of the research colloquium. An excerpt from this is the ‘Iceberg Model’. It allows educators to have an expanded perception funnel for noticeable student behavior. The 20% of the iceberg that is above the water surface is usually recognizable to teachers (e.g., changes in performance, absences). Below the iceberg are the 80% that are initially unknown to the teacher, but can be the cause of noticeable student behavior. Educators are an important authority and hub that can significantly influence the learning and framework conditions of children and adolescents. A prerequisite in any case is a stable, trusting teacher-student relationship and good teaching.
Pioneers at the University of Applied Sciences Vienna – Psychotherapy at the FH Campus for Students
After a successful evaluation phase in January 2022, the student union representation is doing pioneering work.
As part of their Mental Health Campaign, the ÖH is offering psychotherapy for students at the FH Campus Vienna for the first time. Two options for psychotherapeutic settings are available to students.
Dr. Regina Heidenhofer, as a Systemic Family Therapist, offers her services directly on the premises of the FH Campus Vienna. Additionally, money is available for students to submit their psychotherapy fee notes to the student union.

Bella, the Co-Therapist
As a psychotherapist, I like to work with animal support. Belli can listen just as well as I can. Dogs are known to be humans’ best friends and are characterized by a number of positive qualities such as…
- they don’t judge (neutrality of the psychotherapist)
- they can engage in relationships unconditionally (client-psychotherapist relationship)
- they don’t talk to others (confidentiality of the psychotherapist)
- and much more.

Brainspotting training is an additional qualification that can only be completed by doctors, psychologists, and psychotherapists. This method can initiate a neuro-experiential processing process and lead to the integration or healing of traumatic injuries. As a body therapy, the connection between body and brain processes is of central importance.
A Brainspotting therapist usually uses a pointer and asks the client to focus on this point. Body reactions signal one or more brainspots. By focusing on a brainspot or resource point, access to the limbic system is enabled, allowing for effective processing of trauma (cf. www.brainspottingaustria.com).

Return on Investment (ROI) 1 : 2 up to 1 : 5.5
This key figure means that every euro invested in mental health yields an overall economic benefit that is two to about five times higher (cf. Nübling, R. et al. 2014/p. 389 f). On November 13, 2021, Dr. Regina Heidenhofer presented figures, data, and facts at the Urania during the first “come-together” of interested psychotherapists, advocating for the rapid implementation of the “Fit4school – psychotherapeutic counseling in schools” concept.
Brainspotting is a technique developed by David Grand – a New York psychoanalyst – to support the processing of emotional and physical trauma. This method assumes that physical and/or emotional stress is stored in the body and brain – including in the limbic system. With the help of this method, it is possible to locate and process stored trauma. Regina Heidenhofer works, among other things, as a Brainspotting practitioner.

Psychotherapy with Infants, Children, and Adolescents
To address the special needs of infants, children, and adolescents in psychotherapeutic work, since 2014, the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection has recommended an extension curriculum with in-depth knowledge and competencies. Regina Heidenhofer has this in-depth qualification due to her years of experience and additional training as an infant, child, and adolescent therapist.
This book was written by an educator for educators as part of a doctoral thesis.
As an educator, the author knows the challenges of everyday school life; as a systemic family therapist, she has an expanded field of knowledge and perception at her disposal. A model developed by the author is intended to make it easier for teachers to identify and respond to signals from students early on.
Systemic family therapy offers pedagogy several helpful areas of application that can be used in everyday school life in communication, teaching, and in the approach to students.

The ARGE-Schulpsychotherapie of the Austrian Federal Association for Psychotherapy – consisting of innovative psychotherapists from all over Austria – has developed a concept to recognize psychological stress of students, teachers, and parents in school early on and to act preventively (https://www.psychotherapie.at/).
Managing relationships for a successful life. Martin Buber puts it this way: “Man becomes I through You.”
Relationships shape our lives. The longing for fulfilling relationships is great. This applies to both professional and private everyday life.
Systemic Family Therapy offers perspectives, interventions, and methods that can also be helpful for pedagogy, especially for teachers, educators, trainers, and instructors.

Horses as Mirrors of Our Soul
Horses resonate with their counterpart (= mirror law), reveal behaviors of the counterpart, and react accordingly. Therefore, they are excellently suited for leadership training, communication training, individual and group supervision, psychotherapy, and much more (see “My Services/Workshops“)
